The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Dutchess residents regarding the residency of 68-year-old Jose Vere, who has moved to an address on Cannon Street in Poughkeepsie.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Vere as a level two threat, which means he is at "moderate risk of a repeat offense." He has also been designated as a sexually violent offender.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Vere had sexual contact with his 7-year-old victim in April 2005, when he was arrested by the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. He was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual act with a victim under 11 years old in November that year and sentenced to eight years in prison. Vere is now under the jurisdiction of the Poughkeepsie City Police Department.
